Wire 3 $100M Lake County fiber Internet expansion begins

A Daytona Beach fiber optic Internet provider has started construction on a $100 million project that will bring its high-speed Internet service to certain parts of Lake County.

The Wire 3 Lake County expansion, officials say, which will target Eustis, Leesburg, Mount Dora and Tavares, should be ready to connect customers this winter.

The arrival of Wire 3 adds to an already competitive high-speed Internet market.

Quantum Fiber, Xfinity and AT&T Fiber already have a presence in the region.

The company launched in 2021 and has since raised more than $550 million in financing.

“Our footprint will serve as a testament to our commitment to deliver future-proof fiber Internet throughout Central Florida communities,” Wire 3 CEO Jai Ramachandran said in a press release. “Our goal remains the same: to deliver reliable technology and symmetrical speeds to every resident and business we serve.”

The move represents the company’s first entry into Lake County.

The population of the four communities adds up to more than 400,000 people, with that number expected to grow.

According to the company, customers will have access to 10 gigabytes per second symmetrical speeds after the Wire 3 Lake County expansion.

It’s an industry standard that will benefit remote work, video conferencing and other now-standard uses of home-based Internet service.

Wire 3 employs more than 170 people across Central Florida and will offer free hardware to customers in the region.

Further updates are expected about the project’s second phase following initial construction to make the service available.
