Orlando’s Maker Faire returns for 13th year of innovation

A familiar energy will return to Central Florida this November as Maker Faire Orlando gears up for its 13th annual celebration.

The community-organized showcase of local do-it-yourself science, art, robots, crafts, and technology has cultivated a vibe of invention and shared learning for more than a decade.

“Maker Faire Orlando brings together an incredible mix of curious minds and creative spirits – people who love to learn, build, and share,” founder Ian Cole said in a press release. “From engineers and scientists to artists and crafters, it’s a one-of-a-kind space where makers showcase their passions and projects, offering a glimpse into the future and sparking inspiration for all who attend.”

The event will be held at the Central Florida Fairgrounds on Nov. 8-9.

The term “makers” collectively refers to those who create and includes tech enthusiasts, crafters and scientists, as well as tinkerers.

Maker Faire Orlando officials expect to draw as many as 14,000 people this year.

The event offers a broad spectrum of exhibits and hands-on activities designed to immerse attendees in maker culture.

This includes intricate robotics, electronics projects, cosplay and various STEM and STEAM applications.

Signature experiences like the Power Racing Series, where makers race custom-built machines, and Robot Ruckus combat robots will return.

New this year is a field trip preview day on Nov. 7.

The preview provides students, teachers and homeschool families an exclusive opportunity for hands-on learning. In addition, they will interact with Florida’s makers, artists, engineers and inventors.

The Maker Effect Foundation produces the event, which hosts more than 1,000 volunteers. Maker Faire Orlando directly benefits local makers and community, serving as a regional hub for other DIY events in Florida.
