Special post by OTN Founder Marco Santana
On this Memorial Day, my thoughts extend beyond a moment of silence to the profound sacrifice made by countless brave men and women for our freedoms.
Personally, I don’t consider this a day for surface-level platitudes, but for deep introspection into the true cost of liberty.
The reflection is intensely personal, shaped by the unwavering service of my own sister, who was actively serving during the tumultuous period of 9/11, and so many other friends and family members.
Her dedication, and the countless stories like hers, underscore the very real human commitment behind the uniform.
Living in Orlando, a community deeply enriched by a robust defense tech presence and a vibrant veteran population, the resonance of this day feels particularly strong.
Over the past year, my collaboration with Veterans Entrepreneurship Initiative (VEI) has given me an even deeper appreciation for the unique lessons forged in service.
I’ve heard countless firsthand accounts of how the discipline, strategic thinking, and profound resilience honed in military life translate directly into innovative, impactful business ventures.
Orlando is very fortunate to have the depth we do in this for so many reasons, the business ecosystem not being the least of them.
These aren’t just success stories; they’re powerful testaments to how the invaluable skills developed defending our country continue to strengthen our economy and communities.
As we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, let us also recognize the enduring spirit of all who have served.
Their legacy isn’t confined to battlefields or memorials; it lives on in the entrepreneurial drive, the unwavering commitment to mission, and the selfless leadership that continues to shape our world.
May we use this day to truly appreciate the immense contributions of all veterans, and to ensure their sacrifice continues to inspire a future worthy of their valor.
